Sandplay is a non-verbal but effective therapeutic approach based on the belief that psyche, in a “free and protected” space, is self-healing. Used alone or with talk therapy, it allows clients to engage in free play with the sand, as many / few figurines, sometimes even water and fire, to create their 3-dimentional “world” in a sand tray (28.5”L X 19.5”W X 3”D) in the protective presence of an “active but quiet witnessing” therapist. Clients may /may not discuss his/her creation upon completion. The therapist may offer any support but refrain from making premature interpretations.
In sandplay, the psyche can freely communicate itself with images and symbols and thus get access to some deep feelings, thoughts and complexes that were far beyond the reach of human languages. It is a safe and powerful way to work with preverbal and nonverbal traumas, abuse and neglect while facilitating profound healing.
EMDR is an extensively researched and highly effective therapy method for treatment of traumas, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. This integrative psychotherapy helps the brain to restore its normal processing capacity which was thrown off by traumatic events, so that it can resolve any unprocessed traumatic memories via bilateral stimulation (“BLS”, including eye movements, tactile buzzers, alternating tapping and auditory beeps or a combination of them. By doing so, EMDR allows normal healing to occur.
What sets EMDR apart from talk-therapy is it requires little talking, faster recovery speed, and no homework between the sessions. If the above-mentioned benefits sound appealing to you, EMDR treatment is definitely a worthy investment in your own well-being.
